Brittany Isabelle

Musician | Pre-Service Early Childhood Teacher

Brittany Isabelle Carvalho (1993) has had a long affair with music since taking music classes as a toddler. Her mother was her first piano teacher until she started formal piano lessons in 2000 at St Brigid's College (SBC). Brittany enrolled in the strings program at SBC in 2002 in violin.

Brittany has participated in the Big Gig at SBC, Kalamunda Eisteddfods, Fremantle Eisteddfods, West Australian Music Teachers concerts, Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festivals, school concerts, various orchestras, and plays piano and violin in her local church. Brittany has completed Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) exams for piano, violin and theory and working towards her Associate in Music (AMUS) on piano.

Brittany was awarded the Sr Majella Power Scholarship in 2007 at Santa Maria College. Brittany took music in high school and also as a subject in her Year 12 exams in 2010.

To further her study of Classical Piano, Brittany applied and was accepted to study a Bachelor of Classical Performance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and graduated in 2013. Brittany completed a Graduate Certificate in Religious Education as an online student at the Australian Catholic University in 2016. Brittany is currently completing her Masters of Teaching (Early Childhood) degree. Her work in progress graduate e-Portfolio takes you on her teaching journey so far. She also hopes to study a Masters of Music Therapy in the not so distant future combining her love of music and helping people.

In and amongst study Brittany has had the opportunity to volunteer on the Sunday Funday team at Radio Lollipop entertaining and working with children at Princess Margaret Hospital and volunteer in early childhood classrooms taking on various tasks at primary schools in Perth. Brittany has also worked as a casual relief educator at the UWA Early Learning Centre, and worked as an assistant and coordinator with Camp Australia at various schools in Perth doing Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) and Holiday Club shifts.
In June 2016, Brittany booked a spontaneous flight to Toronto. She returned three and a half months later having adventured through North America. Brittany completed a Level 1 Orff Schulwerk Music Education Summer Course at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, and volunteered at the Rosarian Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida. In July 2017 Brittany went off on another three and half month adventure around Canada and America and completed a Level 2 Orff Music Education Summer Course at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, and once more volunteered at the Rosarian Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida. In July 2019 Brittany adventured through America, Canada, Colombia and Cuba for three months completing the last instalment of her course, Level 3 Orff Schulwerk at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

Brittany intends to continue teaching music to young children (aged 3-17) and hopes to extend her musical knowledge by learning the cello (eventually), becoming more proficient in guitar and violin and gaining more experience in accompanying and playing for weddings, and other events.. her musical journey! She also hopes to extend out her creative abilities and dive into the world of blogging, calligraphy, yoga/pilates, art, textiles, and maybe even her own travel agency one day. Of course travel to adventurous new places is also always on the cards (and hopefully a move to London).
Yay for wanderlust! ♥
